National Foundation for Infectious Diseases Issues Alert

Former U.S. Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, M.D., has teamed up with the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) to develop a nationwide consumer education campaign on the risks of hepatitis A, a contagious viral infection of the liver.

"There is no cure for hepatitis A, but this debilitating illness can and should be prevented through vaccination. I urge those persons at risk to consult their physicians about getting vaccinated. There's no excuse for getting hepatitis A," Koop said.
