"Utilization of Blood from Donors with Hemochromatosis for Allogenic Transfusion."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences' Annual Meeting and Clinical Laboratory Exposition, held July 17-22, 1995, in Anaheim, California, "Hemochromatosis is a genetic disorder of iron metabolism resulting in accumulation of iron in the body and eventual tissue damage and functional impairment. The primary therapy for hemochromatosis is phlebotomy. Units of blood taken from hemochromatosis patients, however, are typically not used for donation.
