Ho: "Raging Fire" Destroys CD4 Cells

The raging fire of HIV infection burns up a person's CD4+ T cells and causes AIDS, according to David D. Ho, director of New York's Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center.

As a consequence, Ho strongly favors very early antiretroviral therapy - using a combination of agents - for people with HIV infection.

Ho last year completely altered the way HIV disease is perceived when he unveiled data showing that HIV replicates wildly even in the earliest days of infection (see AIDS Weekly, October 24, 1994).
