Children Born to Serologically Reactive Mothers Should Be Screened

Researchers from Argentina recommend children born to mothers serologically reactive for Chagas' disease receive early diagnostic screening for congenital Chagas' disease.

Hector Freilij and Jaime Altcheh, Parasitology Laboratory, Ricardo Gutierrez Children's Hospital Buenos Aires, Argentina, reviewed the charts of 72 children with congenital Chagas' disease infection in a study of the diagnostic and clinical aspects of congenital infection of infection with Trypanosoma cruzi ("Congenital Chagas' Disease: Diagnostic and Clinical Aspects," Clinical Infectious Diseases, September 1995;21(3):551-555).
