Sixth Hepatitis Agent May Have Wide Geographic Range

Acute viral hepatitis (AVH) among patients in Saudi Arabia was caused by five recognized hepatitis viruses, with a sixth agent responsible for 13 percent of AVH cases.

Goals of the study included the application of modern technology to the diagnosis of AVH in Saudi Arabia, the determination of the significance of etiologic agents of hepatitis and the comparison of various factors (clinical, biochemical, demographic and risk) that are associated with each type of AVH, stated Tawfik M.
