Anti-Clotting Treatment Not Recommended for All Stroke Patients

Stroke patients do not benefit from intravenous thrombolysis (blood clot dissolvers), according to an article in the October 4, 1995, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

The research was presented at the American Medical Association's (AMA) 14th annual Science Reporters Conference.

Werner Hacke, M.D., from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, Markku Kaste, M.D., from the University of Helsinki, Finland, and colleagues found that recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA), when administered within six hours of the onset of stroke symptoms, can improve some functional measures in stroke patients who have suffered...
