PCR Cannot Measure Virus Inactivation

While polymerase chain reaction (PCR) may be an appropriate method to determine virus elimination, researchers have deemed it inadequate for determining virus inactivation.

PCR cannot be used in analyzing final plasma products for their safety in terms of hepatitis virus, if the products were manufactured by a process that includes virus inactivating methods, Dr. Joachim Hilfenhaus, Head of Virology, Research Laboratories of Behringwerke AG, Marburg, Germany stated.
