Phase II Trials Planned for RBCs Converted to Group O

Red cells that have been converted from group B to group O were safe and efficacious when transfused to individuals with group O or group A blood.

Methods to enzymatically convert group A and group B red cells to group O red cells are being developed.

The availability of such converted red cells in a clinical setting can diminish problems associated with shortages of group O red cells.
