Vice President Gore to Lead AIDS Vaccine Effort

Vice President Al Gore will convene a panel of government, industry, and academic researchers to push for development of an AIDS/HIV vaccine, said Patsy Fleming, director of the Office of National AIDS Policy.

Pointing to a 26 percent increase in AIDS research spending during the Clinton Administration, Fleming said that the Gore panel represents the President's ongoing commitment to AIDS prevention and treatment.

Fleming's remarks opened the Eighth Annual Meeting of the National Cooperative Vaccine Development Groups for AIDS, held February 11-15, 1996, in Bethesda, Maryland.
