According to an abstract submitted by the author to the International Conference on Chronic Myelocytic Leukaemia Biology and Treatment, held January 28-31, 1996, in Jerusalem, Israel, "There have been major developments in the last 5 years in the use of 'matched' unrelated donors for BMT for patients with CML. Volunteer donor panels have been established in a large number of countries and more than three million individuals have now have HLA typing data held on electronic records. HLA typing methods have improved such that identity for polymorphic regions of HLA DR, DQ and DP genes can now be established with relative ease.
