WR6026 Has High Activity Level and Low Toxicity

A synthetic quinoline compound has shown activity against the parasite that causes Chagas disease.

New compounds with high levels of activity against the parasites and that also are safe are needed, noted Egler Chiari, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and colleagues ("Potential Use of WR6026 as Prophylaxis against Transfusion-Transmitted American Trypanosomiasis," Antimicrobial Agents & Chemotherapy, March 1996;40(3):613-615).
