Scientists Define Prevalence of New Hepatitis Virus

At the IXth Triennial International Symposium on Viral Hepatitis and Liver Disease, held in Rome, Italy, April 21-25, 1996, scientists from Abbott Laboratories reported on key developments in their research on a family of new viruses, GBV-A, GBV-B, and GBV-C, collectively known as GB agents.

The scientists presented studies which confirmed that one of the three viruses, GBV-C, can establish long-term infections in humans. One mode of transmission can be through contaminated blood and blood products.
