"Rapid RT-PCR Detection of Hepatitis G Virus RNA in Serum Using the TaqMan Fluorogenic Detection System."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 96th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held May 19-23, 1996, in New Orleans, Louisiana, "Hepatitis G virus (HGV) is a newly discovered parenterally transmitted RNA virus and appears to be associated with non-A-E hepatitis. HGV RNA has been detected in the serum of patients with acute and chronic hepatitis using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). We report here the application of a new fluorogenic based PCR assay (Taqman; Perkin Elmer/Applied Biosystems) for the rapid detection of HGV RNA in serum.
