Cell-ELISA Using Monoclonal Antibody Detects P. vivax in Blood

A preliminary field trial of a cell-ELISA has shown 100 percent specificity for the diagnosis of Plasmodium vivax malaria.

Malaria morbidity in Latin America is mostly due to Plasmodium vivax infection, noted Carmen Bracho and Hilda A. Perez, Centro de Microbiologia y Biologia Celular Laboratorio de Inmunoparasitologia, Caracas, Venezuela ("Sensitive Detection of Plasmodium vivax in Blood by a Cell-ELISA Using a Monoclonal Antibody," Journal of Immunoassay, 1996;17:155-174).
