Study Defines Vector Potential In Primitive Human Hematopoietic Cells

For the first time, California researchers have specifically documented adenovirus transduction of primitive human hematopoietic cells.

In recent years, gene transfer into primitive hematopoietic cells has been an active area of research. The majority of this research has revolved around the use of retroviral vectors. However, the quiescent nature of stem cells and the difficulty in manipulating them in culture has complicated the use of retroviral vectors for gene transduction in this cell population.
