Antibodies to Recombinant Protein Correlate with Viral Clearance

A newly recognized infectious agent, GB virus C (GBV-C), is associated with some cases of non A-E hepatitis and seems to be transmitted parenterally, researchers indicated at the 49th annual meeting of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), Orlando, Florida, October 12-16, 1996.

Through reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), GBV-C has been recognized as a new flavi-like virus in the human population.

GBV-C has been identified in the general population and in one to four percent of the volunteer blood donor population. The virus also has a high prevalence among transfusion recipients, plasmapheresis donors, and commercial...
