Plasma with Elevated Anti-LPS Is Promising Source for Passive Immunotherapy

Researchers in Belgium developed various ELISAs (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays) to screen healthy blood donors for naturally-occurring specific immunoglobulin antibodies.

The assays may help in obtaining pools of naturally-occurring specific anti-lipopolysaccharide (LPS) immunoglobulin (Ig) antibodies, indicated M. Nys, Belgian Red Cross, Brussels, Belgium, and colleagues ("Screening and Characterization of Specific Anti-Lipopolysaccharide Antibodies in Belgian Blood Donors by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assays," European Journal of Clinical Investigation, December 1996;26:1134-1142).
