Agreement Signed To Produce Albumin in Transgenic Cows

Genzyme Transgenics Corp., Framingham, Massachusetts, announced that it has signed the largest transgenic commercialization agreement yet reached.

The agreement with Fresenius AG, Bad Homburg, Germany, provides for the development and commercialization of transgenic human serum albumin. Albumin is the most important protein involved in maintaining the balance of fluids in the blood.

Albumin regulates the transport of amino acids, fatty acids, hormones, drugs, and drug metabolites. Clinical uses include blood volume replacement during conditions of shock, serious burns, and other emergency medicine; during AIDS and cancer therapies; and during...
