Research has shown that infectious pseudotypes can be formed between widely divergent retroviruses. Mo-MLV especially has been shown to form infectious hybrid virions with the Env proteins of several types of nonmurine retroviruses. However, HIV-1 has been resistant to forming infectious combinations with even its closest known nonprimate virus relatives, the visna virus, much less with Mo-MLV.
