According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 4th International Meeting on Hepatitis C Virus and Related Viruses, Molecular Virology and Pathogenesis, held March 6-10, 1997, in Kyoto, Japan, "To evaluate whether HCV-viremic blood donors are missed with current anti-HCV screening, a serum panel from 654 second generation anti-HCV negative blood donors with different ALT profiles was constructed in 1992 and 1994 (elevated ALT 461 donors, normal ALT 193 donors) and tested by HCV-PCR.
