Patent Issuance Announced for Blood Platelet Preservation Product

LifeCell Corp., The Woodlands, Texas, announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a patent to the company covering preservation methods for human blood platelets.

The company has been developing ThromboSol storage solution for the sustained preservation of transfusable platelets. The issued U.S. patent covers the preservation of platelets at temperatures of 8(degree)C and below using compounds that effectively inhibit normal platelet activity during storage.
