Immunoblot Assay Shows Good Sensitivity and Specificity

An immunoblotting assay, with a preserved protein antigen (PP IBA) of Trypanosoma cruzi, may be an appropriate confirmatory assay for the serodiagnosis of Chagas disease.

The PP IBA did not require complex equipment, it was reproducible, and had no doubtful results, said Rodolfo P. Mendes, Federal University of Uberlandia, Uberlandia, Brazil, and colleagues ("Serological Diagnosis of Chagas' Disease: a Potential Confirmatory Assay Using Preserved Protein Antigens of Trypanosoma cruzi," Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1997;35:1829-1834).
