Rural Immigrants Affect T. cruzi Prevalence in Belize

The prevalence of Chagas' disease is limited in individuals born in Belize, and higher in immigrants from other Central American countries.

The higher prevalence was seen in individuals of foreign birth who donated blood and in agriculture workers in rural Belize, said Ruth Jaramillo, Epidemiology Research Center, Belize City, Belize, and colleagues ("Prevalence of Antibody to Trypanosoma cruzi in Three Populations in Belize," American Journal of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene, 1997;57:298-301).
