Higher Dose HBV Vaccine Needed for OLT Candidates

An accelerated schedule of hepatitis B vaccination may be needed in liver transplant candidates with end stage liver disease, but the dosage should be doubled to at least 40 (mu)g HBs Ag per injection, according to a study from Germany's University of Heidelberg.

Researcher B. Kallinowski and colleagues found that only one-third of the orthotopic liver transplant (OLT) candidates given accelerated schedules of hepatitis B vaccine with standard dosages developed protective antibodies.
