"It does not appear to matter whether the packed RBCs are warmed on Day 6 or Day 20," wrote Walter Reed Army Medical Center researchers Jean P. Ruddell and colleagues ("Effect of 24-Hour Storage at 25(degree)C on the in vitro Storage Characteristics of CPDA-1 Packed Red Cells," Transfusion, May 1998;38:424-428).
Ruddell et al. said the information may be useful in determining the acceptability of blood that is allowed to warm above 10(degree)C.
