"Impact of Coagulation Factor VII Polymorphisms to the Risk of Coronary Heart Disease."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 2nd Congress of Molecular Medicine, held May 6-9, 1998, at the International Congress Center, Berlin, Germany, "Increased activity of the vitamin K-depended coagulation factor VII is associated with the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). A hereditary R353Q-polymorphism, genetically linked to a decanucleotide insertion/deletion-polymorphism in the promoter region, is related with a 20% decreased activity of the protein. The activity loss correlates with a decrement of factor VII protein amount, due to lower expression rates, thus, the mutant is supposed to act as a protective factor.
