DNA Vaccine For Chagas Disease Effective in Mice

Recent study results may lay the foundation for DNA immunization against Trypanosoma cruzi, the parasite that causes Chagas disease.

Benjamin Wizel et al., University of Georgia, evaluated DNA vaccination with the experimental murine model of T. cruzi infection as a way to induce antiparasite protective immunity ("Vaccination with Trypomastigote Surface Antigen 1-Encoding Plasmid DNA Confers Protection against Lethal Trypanosoma cruzi Infection," Infection and Immunity, November 1998;66(11):5073-5081).
