According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 38th Annual Conference on Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention, held March 18-21, 1998, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, "In June 1996, the U.S. Public Health Service first recommended the use of combinations of antiretroviral agents as PEP following certain occupational HIV exposures.
