Raised S100 Beta Protein Found in Scrapie Hamsters

S100 beta protein is well known as a marker for the activation of astrocytes, noted Markus Otto, Georg-August Universitat, Gottingen, Germany, and colleagues.
Immunoluminometric analysis recently showed elevated levels of serum S100 beta protein in sporadic and genetic cases of CJD, as compared to demented and non-demented control patients.
