Manual Removal of Placenta Associated with Hemorrhage

Ten percent of women requiring manual removal of the placenta needed blood transfusion support, researchers indicated.

A. Tandberg and colleagues determined the incidence and complications related to manual removal of the placenta ("Manual Removal of the Placenta - Incidence and Clinical Significance," Acta Obstetricia Et Gynecologica Scandinavica, January 1999;78(1):33-36).

The researchers performed a review of hospital medical records from 1990 throughout 1994. For comparison purposes, they used 1,502 vaginal deliveries from 1984-1992.
