Donor Screening Did Not Yield Accurate Information

Three recently described cases of transfusion-transmitted malaria highlight the need to consider malaria in diagnosing a febrile illness after blood transfusion.

The three cases investigated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, Georgia, were among the 103 cases of transfusion-transmitted malaria in the United States that were reported to the CDC during 1958-1998.
