Serological Confirmatory Test Resolves Indeterminate Results

A new serological confirmatory test for human T-cell leukemia virus resolved results for many indeterminate and positive-untypeable blood samples often observed by Western blot assays.

Recently, a new HTLV confirmatory assay (INNO-LIA HTLV I/II Ab [INNO-LIA]; Innogenetics, Ghent, Belgium) appeared to be useful in resolving indeterminate results by WB for well-defined HTLV sera (Zrein et al., Clin Diagn Lab Immunol, 1998;5:45-59).

Ester C. Sabino of Brazil's Fundacao Pro-Sangue and colleagues said this development prompted them to compare the new test with a commercial Western blot (WB) assay. As samples they used a large number of blood donations...
