Drug Approved for Hemophilia A and B

Novo Nordisk A/S, parent company of ZymoGenetics, which produces NovoSeven Coagulation Factor VIIa (Recombinant), recently announced approval of NovoSeven by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of bleeding episodes in hemophilia A or B patients with inhibitors to coagulation Factors VIII or IX.

Bruce Carter, Novo Nordisk and ZymoGenetics (Seattle, Washington) said, "Researchers at ZymoGenetics discovered and cloned the human gene for Factor VII, on which NovoSeven was eventually based, in 1983.
