Elevated Amylase and Lipase Shown in HIV+ Patients with Hepatitis

Elevations in serum amylase and lipase are common in HIV infected patients with chronic hepatitis infection, according to a report from New York's Beth Israel Medical Center.

In this study, researcher A. Argiris and colleagues examined asymptomatic pancreatic enzyme abnormalities in patients with HIV infection ("Abnormalities of Serum Amylase and Lipase in HIV Positive Patients," American Journal of Gastroenterology, May 1999;94(5):1248-1252).
