Differences in T-Cell Receptors Determine Selection by Hematopoietic Cells

Differences between T-cell receptors that may be related to their avidity appear to determine selection directed by hematopoietic cells.

Jens Zerrahn, University of California, Berkeley, California, and colleagues investigated the identity of cells that mediate positive selection of CD8+ T cells in two T-cell receptor (TCR) transgenic systems ("Class I MHC Molecules on Hematopoietic Cells Can Support Intrathymic Positive Selection of T-Cell Receptor Transgenic T Cells," Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, September 28, 1999;96(20):11470-11475).
