Human T-Lymphotropic Virus type 1 (Blood Donation)

Seroindeterminate Donors Generally Not Infected with HTLV-1

by Cathy Clark, Senior Editor -- Most blood donors with seroindeterminate test results for human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) are not infected with this virus, according to findings of a lookback investigation.

The findings indicated, however, that in areas where HTLV-1 is endemic, the rate of seroconversion in a repeat blood donor population should be considered, reported Raymond Cesaire and colleagues, Center for Blood Transfusion and the Neurology Service, University Hospital, Fort-de-France, Martinique ("Seroindeterminate Patterns and Seroconversions to Human T-Lymphotropic Virus Type 1 Positivity in Blood Donors from Martinique, French West Indies,"...
