RIBA Assay Compares Favorably to Genotyping

A RIBA assay is a simple, inexpensive test to obtain information about hepatitis C virus (HCV) types among HCV infected hemodialysis patients, researchers indicated.

Specific HCV genotype may be a predictor of disease progression and interferon responsiveness in chronic HCV infection. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based methods, however, are unsuitable for routine diagnostic use, noted F. Fabrizi and colleagues.
