Prostaglandin Compound is Indicator for Serious Condition

There may be a link between high levels of free 8-iso-prostaglandin F-2 (alpha) from decidua basalis tissue and preeclampsia in pregnant women, according to a study from Norway.

A compound known as 8-iso-prostaglandin F-2 (alpha) has been shown to be a possible mediator and index marker for preeclampsia in women. It is known to induce endothelial derangement, platelet activation, and vasoconstriction. These particular properties of the prostaglandin encouraged scientists at the University of Oslo to see if there would be elevated levels in the decidua basalis tissues of women who had preeclampsia.
