Children with stage III or IV neuroblastoma (NB) commonly are treated with surgery, chemotherapy, and stem cell rescue. Gene marking studies have demonstrated that reinfusion of autologous stem cells contaminated with a level of tumor cells that is undetectable morphologically contributes to relapse, Meck and colleagues noted.
