Agreement Signed to Develop Factor IX Gene Therapy

BTG International Inc., Gulph Mills, Pennsylvania, announced that it has signed a license agreement with Avigen, Inc., covering the use of the gene for Factor IX, an important blood protein, in Avigen's proprietary gene therapy delivery system, which it is developing for the treatment of Hemophilia B.

The Factor IX gene sequence was discovered by researchers at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, and the University of Washington in Seattle, and was acquired by BTG for commercialization.
