P. Rhee and colleagues performed a study to determine whether activated neutrophils are involved in secondary tissue injury after resuscitation in trauma ("Human neutrophil activation and increased adhesion by various resuscitation fluids," Critical Care Medicine, 2000;28(1):74-78).
