New System Evaluated

The Membrane Autotransfusion System (MATS) developed at the Hyogo College of Medicine in Hyogo, Japan, is faster and induces less trauma than other systems, according to the researchers who developed it.

The MATS was created by K. Fukunaga and colleagues, who employed plasmapheresis technology and a unique polyethylene hollow fiber membrane in the system's design. The researchers performed a study to assess how well the experimental prototype, MATS-I, operated.
