Dietary Protein Restrictions Can Improve Kidney Function for Chronic Rejection Patients

Limiting the amount of protein intake for patients suffering from chronic kidney rejection can help control the progression of disease, researchers report.

"Successful kidney transplantation allows remarkable rehabilitation of patients with end-stage renal disease previously on [dialysis]. However, information concerning the role of dietary protein restriction in the treatment of patients with chronic transplant rejection is scarce," explained A. Bernardi and colleagues in Italy ("Dietary protein intake and nutritional status in patients with renal transplant," Clinical Nephrology, 2000;53(4):B3-B5).
