Early Filtration of Blood Reduces Efficacy

Researchers in the United States report that early filtration of red blood cell (RBC) units for the reduction of white blood cells (WBC) reduces the efficacy of the filtration process.

"The influence of time, temperature, and rate of filtration on the efficacy of WBC reduction of RBC units was studied in a controlled, paired-donor format," wrote J.D. Smith and colleagues, U.S. National Institutes of Health.
