Most Healthcare Workers Exposed to HIV Choose Prophylaxis

Most healthcare workers (HCW) exposed to HIV through work-related injuries complete postexposure prophylaxis (PEP), researchers in the United States reported.

"The purpose of this study was to evaluate the experience with HIV PEP at Baystate Medical Center, a 600-bed tertiary care facility, looking at a variety of factors including differences in timeliness of treatment between cases initially seen in Employee Health Service (EHS) and the Emergency Department (ED)," reported James R. Garb, director of Occupational Health and Safety, Baystate Health System, Massachusetts.
