Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens Studied at Teaching Hospital

Researchers in the United States evaluated healthcare workers' (HCW) risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens at a community teaching hospital.

"Because occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens can lead to morbidity and occasional mortality, we studied 1) the prevalence of HCW exposure to bloodborne pathogens from patient sources, 2) HCW tolerance of postexposure prophylaxis (PEP), and 3) the occurrence of HCW seroconversion," reported Connie Steed and Margaret Baker, Greenville Memorial Medical Center, USA.
