Two-Step ex vivo Expansion Culture Technique for Cord Blood Products Developed

University of Colorado researchers have developed a two-step protocol for expanding cord blood cells ex vivo.

They suggest infusing adult chemotherapy patients with greater numbers of cord blood cells may result in quicker neutrophil engraftment.

I. McNiece and colleagues associated with UC's Bone Marrow Transplantation Program noted that because a single unit of cord blood has relatively few cells, allogeneic cord blood (CB) products have been used to boost cellular support primarily in small children undergoing high-dose chemotherapy.
