Lentiviral Vectors Effective in Targeting Hematopoietic Stem Cells

Hematologists in Sweden have presented evidence showing that lentiviral gene vectors can be effectively used to target human blood-producing stem cells.

N.B. Woods and colleagues at the University of Lund described their study, performed to evaluate "the ability of lentiviral vectors to transfer genes into human hematopoietic stem cells," in the journal Blood.

The researchers used a vector derived from the lentivirus type species, HIV-1, which was designed to express "green fluorescence protein (GFP) downstream of the phosphoglycerate kinase (PGK) promoter and pseudotyped with the G protein of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV)," according to...
