"18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) offers the advantage of metabolic imaging that is largely independent of morphologic criteria," noted Guy Jerusalem and colleagues in Belgium.
Jerusalem et al. found that 18F-FDG PET compared very favorably to conventional imaging methods, including chest X-rays and computed tomography (CT) scans.
