"The immunodeficient state [after transplantation] provides a basis for lymphomagenesis, probably through activation of oncogenic viruses," explained Y. Hoshida and colleagues at Osaka University.
Hoshida et al. found that Japanese kidney transplant patients have a high rate of post-transplant lymphomas, and that many of these patients also carry a number of leukemia-causing viruses.
